This Omakase Sushi In NYC Might Be The Freshest Sushi On The Planet, And It Looks Divine

New York City is home to some of the best sushi restaurants in the world. I have been fortunate enough to eat at a handful of them (Sushi Nakazawa, Sushi of Gari, Jewel Bako, Neta, etc), and it’s precisely because I’ve been lucky enough to eat sushi from some of the best chefs in the city that I’m so obsessed with this video. I’ve never eaten at Cagen in the East Village where this clip from Eater takes place.

I’m guessing most of you are familiar with Omakase, but if you aren’t it translates to ‘Chef’s Choice’ as you can see in this video. Basically, when you order the Omakase you put all of the guesswork and choosing in the sushi chef’s hands. The sushi chef serves you the freshest fish in the restaurant, a collection of his absolute finest rolls.

The sushi fish used in the Omakase at Cagen is so goddamn fresh that their head Sushi Chef shows up every day and gets a surprise. He doesn’t even know what he’ll be serving until that morning because the fish shows up that day. There’s no fish sitting in the freezer overnight. It’s as fresh as possible without plucking it straight out of the ocean, and that’s well worth the Omakase price tag at Cagen in the East Village. (h/t DIGG Video)
