Best Ford of Nashua, New Hampshire got an unexpected response when they wrote a post on Facebook asking people to be on the lookout for a $50,000 Ford F-250 Lariat that they believe they were scammed into selling.
“We’re reaching out to our local community in Nashua and surrounding areas for assistance in locating one of our vehicles,” Best Ford wrote. “A gentleman named Ryan Duval recently made a fake check and left Best Ford in a 2020 White Ford F-250 Lariat Crew Cab (last 6 of the VIN: C26028) valued at about $50,000, we have connected with him via facebook and he wont return it. Also please do not approach this person, he is not a good guy.”
They weren’t done there. Not even close.
“That’s where YOU come in! We’re offering a $1,000 REWARD to anyone who can find this truck so we can send a repo truck out to get it. Every bit of help counts, and we’d be so grateful if you could keep an eye out! We have tagged him in this post so if you guys want a head start on making $1000 go to his page and find out everything you need to know about him.”
They didn’t have to wait long, because after one citizen commented that they thought they had seen Duval at an AutoZone buying RealTree floor mats for the truck, Duval replied, right there in the comments, “Nope, WeatherTech.”
Needless to say, it wasn’t long before Ryan Duval was arrested and charged with writing the bad $25,000 check to purchase a truck and the truck was recovered.
“Duval was released on $500 cash bail from the Nashua Police Department,” a press release read. “However, Duval also had outstanding warrants from other agencies, and custody was transferred to those agencies.”
Duval was charged with theft by deception, a Class A felony; theft by unauthorized taking, a Class B felony; and forgery, a Class B felony. Bonus: he also had an outstanding arrest warrant as the suspect in multiple thefts that had occrured at a Lowe’s in Nashua.
He also didn’t get the $1,000 Facebook bounty. That was actually doubled by Best Ford with $1,000 going to the Nashua Police Department Athletic League and another $1,000 going to “a lucky supporter right here on Facebook.”
