Sydney Sweeney’s visible nip slips during the Season 3 wedding episode of Euphoria were entirely intentional, according to costume designer Natasha Newman-Thomas. Fans on social media had been speculating why there had been such an obvious costuming mishap.

During rehearsals for Cassie’s first dance, the custom corseted bridal gown — featuring a low-cut neckline and a thigh-high slit — kept causing slips. Rather than fix it, according to Natasha Newman-Thomas, she and Cassie Howard actress Sydney Sweeney leaned into it.

The designer of the wedding dress that Sydney Sweeney wore in Season 3 of Euphoria claims that the many wardrobe malfunctions were intentional

“OK, we’re not going to tape her in. We’re going to embrace it. We’re going to make custom pasties out of the same hand-beaded fabric and embrace the nip slip because that’s so Cassie,” Newman-Thomas told InStyle. “I wanted to make the most beautiful, sexy wedding dress with just the slightest touch of tackiness because it’s Cassie.”

Additionally, Jackson Wiederhoeft, who designed the $50,000 floral arrangement and the dress for the key Euphoria episode, said that “The type of dress where the bride wants all the s—.”

“Best case scenario, you’re dressing as a form of self-expression, but there is a scenario in which you’re dressing as revenge and as a form of trying to outdo everyone. It was more about doing the most,” Wiederhoeft said.

Despite her numerous nude scenes in both Season 3 and the series at large, Sweeney previously said she’s pushed back on unnecessary nudity with series creator Sam Levinson and he’s always obliged.

The third and final season of Euphoria will continue airing on Sundays on HBO until its series finale is released on May 31.
