Texas Roadhouse is popular for many reasons—one of which is its Texas-sized portions. Many of the chain’s menu options include an entree and two hefty sides. Given that there are 16 sides customers can choose from, the combinations seem endless. For one former Texas Roadhouse server, there’s a specific combination she loves so much and calls the “best meal” at the chain.
“I used to work at Texas Roadhouse. I’m gonna show you the best meal that I get every single time I come here,” former Michigan-based Roadie server Heather McPherson (@forevaheatha) says while sitting in a Texas Roadhouse. “It’s one of my favorite places to eat because everything is made from scratch.”
What Is The ‘Best Meal’ At Texas Roadhouse?
She reveals the first heavy hitter in her line-up: a strawberry lemonade. “They’re so good from here,” she says, taking a sip.
Up next is the fan favorite duo: the baked yeast rolls with cinnamon butter. Then, it’s the house salad she pairs with a makeshift dressing that she says she discovered through a customer.
“So, I do French dressing and ranch,” she says, emptying each dressing cup onto her salad. “When I was working here, someone did this, and I thought it was so gross. Now I’ve never [gone] back.”
The content creator orders the famous Cactus Blossom appetizer. “It comes with this Cajun sauce,” she says, dipping the deep-fried onion piece into the sauce before enjoying it. “I honestly like it with just ranch.”
Then, the main dish makes an appearance: the steak kabob with vegetables and rice.
“I dump out like this,” she says, pouring the sides out of their individual bowls onto the plate. She douses the entire plate in A1 barbecue sauce. “You need a good bite of everything on it and the rice.”
She says this meal heats up especially well. It also stretches fairly well, as she microwaves just a portion of these leftovers at a time and gets several meals out of it.

The Steak Kabob
This is quite the unusual order, as the steamed sweet potato, mashed potatoes, and steak fries are among the most popular side dishes at Texas Roadhouse. However, the steak kabob seems to be quite popular among customers and former Texas Roadhouse servers.
“I used to work at Texas Roadhouse and I also always order the steak kabob!” one viewer praised.
“I LOVE the steak [kab0bs]! One of my favorite things to order,” a second concurred.
“That’s exactly how I get my salad!!” a third stated.
“As a former TXRH server I also always get the steak [kabob] with the rice and Cesar salad lol,” a fourth commented.
Does Texas Roadhouse Make Everything From Scratch?
Since the steakhouse opened its doors in 1993, it has prided itself on making all of its menu items in-house. In fact, the chain claims its “rolls are baked fresh every five minutes.”
According to their website, this also applies to its hand-cut steaks. Each location has a designated cutter or butcher. While Texas Roadhouse primarily uses sirloin (like in the kabob), there’s a specific cut that isn’t in-house.
An alleged Texas Roadhouse meat cutter told Eat This, Not That! the porterhouse steak arrives frozen and pre-cut.
The steak fries are also delivered to the restaurant locations frozen, a representative told Eat This, Not That! And, the kids’ mac and cheese is simply Kraft.
