As the entertainment industry exponentially expands, so does its constant coverage — blogs, podcasts, YouTube shows, and magazines to cover every episode, casting announcement, trailer, and movie release that happens during the course of the week.

Add in all of those “New On Netflix This Week” articles out there and the influx of information for the average pop culture nerd can become overwhelming.

But what if someone fixed that? What if someone compiled all of the must-see trailers, all of the trendiest rumors, all of the pending release dates, all of the most-fuego latest gear into one easy-to-consume article?

What if the hero we deserve and the hero we need is actually just a weekly entertainment newsletter?

Throwback Watch of the Week

The Town

Official Synopsis:  “Doug MacRay (Ben Affleck) leads a band of ruthless bank robbers and has no real attachments except for James (Jeremy Renner), who — despite his dangerous temper — is like a brother. Everything changes for Doug when James briefly takes a hostage, bank employee Claire Keesey. Learning that she lives in the gang’s neighborhood, Doug seeks her out to discover what she knows, and he falls in love. As the romance deepens, he wants out of his criminal life, but that could threaten Claire.”

Our Review: Arguably the best bank heist film of the 21st century, The Town reignited Ben Affleck’s career in a way that’s only since been replicated by Matthew McConaughey during the McConaissance.

Netflix Gem of the Week

Jackie Brown

Official Synopsis: “When flight attendant Jackie Brown (Pam Grier) is busted smuggling money for her arms dealer boss, Ordell Robbie (Samuel L. Jackson), agent Ray Nicolette (Michael Keaton) and detective Mark Dargus (Michael Bowen) want her help to bring down Robbie. Facing jail time for her silence or death for her cooperation, Brown decides instead to double-cross both parties and make off with the smuggled money. Meanwhile, she enlists the help of bondsman Max Cherry (Robert Forster), a man who loves her.”

Our Review: Following the release of Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction, Tarantino was the hottest commodity in Hollywood with the rare ability to make any project he wanted. So what did he decide to do? Adapt Elmore Leonard’s 1992 novel Rum Punch, of course.

A vehicle for 1970’s actress Pam Grier, Jackie Brown is simultaneously Tarantino’s least recognizable, but also most underrated film. It also may be the director’s most rewatchable film as it’s just a generally good time that breezes through its two-and-a-half-hour runtime.

Featuring an out-of-character wicked turn from Samuel L. Jackson and a tender performance from Robert Forster, Jackie Brown also boasts as of a fine cast as you’ll see in a Tarantino flick, as Robert De Niro (who’s equally hilarious and terrifying as an essentially thoughtless stoner bank robber) and Michael Keaton also star.
