‘The Last of Us Part II’ Is (Finally!) Dropping On June 19

Naughty Dog

Finally, some good great news! Just one short month ago, as I begrudgingly yet hopefully tried to swallow the news that The Last of Us Part II was being delayed for the umpteenth time, I wrote this:

The Last of Us Part II is going to enter our lives one day, and when it does, I’m going to enjoy it all the more. Absence does make the heart grow fonder, after all.”

Little did I know that said “one day” would be coming early this summer, as Sony has announced that the highly anticipated sequel will finally be released on Friday, June 19.

“As we begin to see an ease in the global distribution environment, I am pleased to confirm that The Last of Us Part II will arrive on June 19. And Ghost of Tsushima will follow on July 17,” Hermen Hulst, the Head of Worldwide Studios at Sony said in an official statement.

Originally scheduled to be released on February 21, the game was delayed until May 29 to allow the studio to make further tweaks to the game. However, due to the ongoing global situation, the game was once again delayed indefinitely back in late March.

After seven years of waiting — the original and critically-acclaimed game was released back in 2013 — it appears that fans of the franchise are finally within touching distance of the sequel’s long-awaited release.

The Last of Us Part II, which will continue the story of Joel and Ellie, is set five years after the original game.
