Russell Crowe is back as the 58-year-old Academy Award winner is set to star in the upcoming horror thriller The Pope’s Exorcist, which just released its first trailer.

The Pope’s Exorcist is directed by Australian writer/director Julius Avery, who has previously directed films such as the 2018 Nazi zombie movie Overlord and the 2022 Sylvester Stallone-starring superhero film Samaritan.

Here is the official synopsis for The Pope’s Exorcist, courtesy of Sony Pictures:

Inspired by the actual files of Father Gabriele Amorth, Chief Exorcist of the Vatican (Academy Award-winner Russell Crowe), The Pope’s Exorcist follows Amorth as he investigates a young boy’s terrifying possession and ends up uncovering a centuries-old conspiracy the Vatican has desperately tried to keep hidden.

In addition to Crowe, The Pope’s Exorcist — which will hit theaters in the United States on April 14 — also stars Daniel Zovatto, Alex Essoe, and Franco Nero.

The Pope’s Exorcist is just one of a handful of projects that Crowe has due out in the coming years, as he also has films such as The Georgetown Project, Kraven the Hunter (which is a Spider-Man spinoff starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson), and Sleeping Dogs in various stages of production.
