During Sunday’s NFL broadcast on CBS, in an effort to both take a victory lap and promote the release of Top Gun: Maverick on Paramount+ (on December 22), 60-year-old Tom Cruise featured in an advert that saw him, once again, leap out of a plane while telling the human race he will “see them at the movies.”
This, of course, isn’t the first time that Cruise has pulled this stunt this year — back in September, we brought you the story of footage from CinemaCon seeing the 60-year-old action star hanging off the side of a plane to promote the making of Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning.
Obviously as much of an adrenaline junkie as his reputation suggests he is, Cruise not only dusted off the stunt for a second go-around but actually upped the ante this time around as he delivered his message to the masses WHILST in free fall.
Speaking to fans from the “set” of Mission: Impossible (a.k.a. the open sky), Cruise thanked fans for their support of Top Gun: Maverick — which is set to score a bevy of Oscar nominations, including a Best Picture nom (if The Academy is smart) — while also saying it’s the “honor of a lifetime” to be able to entertain people with his movies.
“I didn’t want the year to end without thanking you all for coming out to the theaters and thank you for supporting Top Gun: Maverick,” Cruise said.
Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One, which stars Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, Rebecca Ferguson, Vanessa Kirby, Hayley Atwell, Shea Whigham, Pom Klementieff, Esai Morales, Rob Delaney, Henry Czerny, and Cary Elwes alongside Cruise, will hit theaters in the United States on July 14, 2023.
The sequel, Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part Two, is currently scheduled to release the following year on June 28, 2024.
