Due to the release of his new (and, unfortunately, widely-panned) AppleTV+ series The Crowded Room, Marvel Cinematic Universe star Tom Holland has been doing a bunch of press in recent weeks and has been in particularly carefree form.

After attempting to claim that he has “limited rizz” — despite the fact that he’s dating Zendaya, a woman who is followed by over 182 million people on Instagram — Holland is again making headlines for his comments about his now-iconic drag performance of Rihanna’s “Umbrella” back in a 2017 episode of the reality TV series Lip Sync Battle.

Specifically, Holland was asked about whether or not that performance was a statement on toxic masculinity, to which he replied with a simple “no” before launching into a more elaborate explanation of his mindset at the time.

“I don’t give a f***. I’ve grown up in the most non-toxic-masculine environment possible. I didn’t realize what I was doing was so forward-thinking,” Holland told The Hollywood Reporter in a recent interview.

“I was just like, ‘Yeah, f*** it, I’ll put some fishnets on and dance in the rain. That’ll be really fun. I don’t care.’”

These days, though, Holland said he wouldn’t do such a thing, but not for the reason you’d expect. Instead, he just doesn’t feel like doing reality TV shows these days.

“But you’d never catch me doing that now,” Holland said. “Just because I don’t want to do a f****** TV show that I don’t need to do. I’d rather go and play golf and live my little private life.”

The 27-year-old Spider-Man star also pondered the fact that this two-minute viral clip might be what he’s best known for (or, at the very least, most appreciated for).

“It is an interesting one. Because I’ve really worked hard in my career and I’ve really been calculated in deciding what it is I do and when I do it. And for all the movies that I’m incredibly proud of, the Lip Sync Battle is what I get the most compliments for.”

Aside from The Crowded Room on AppleTV+, Holland doesn’t have anything due out in the coming months and years other than the eventual fourth Spider-Man movie and the next two Avengers movies, which still aren’t due out for another few years. Holland did recently say, however, that he’s in the midst of a year-long break from acting, so perhaps that’s why.
