The fifth and final season of The Boys is generating controversy on multiple fronts, and the latest involves one of the original core cast members, Tomer Capone. Capone has played Frenchie on the series since it premiered in 2019.

Tomer Capone, the Israeli actor who plays Frenchie on the hit Prime Video series The Boys, is facing backlash and boycott calls after a 2016 interview he gave to the Israeli outlet Ynet resurfaced this week.

Unearthed interview with The Boys star Tomer Capone reveals he was an IDF soldier who kidnapped Palestinian teenagers

In the unearthed interview, Capone described his experiences serving in the IDF, including participating in night raids on Palestinian homes in the West Bank to detain individuals, with accounts of handcuffing, blindfolding, and abducting an 18-year-old Palestinian girl.

“In the middle of the night, you storm a family’s home in a way that isn’t aggressive, but the family doesn’t let you take their 18-year-old daughter easily,” he said in the interview.

Given the rapidly declining global perception of Israel and the IDF, fans of The Boys were incensed to learn about Capone’s past.

The discovery about Capone’s past has also led to fans realizing that, for all of the right-wing adjacent subjects that The Boys mocks, Israel is not among them.

The Boys Season 5 premiered on Wednesday, April 8 and will conclude with its series finale on Wednesday, May 20.
