At the risk of inadvertently revealing a daydreaming habit that’s nowhere as common as I think it is, I’m pretty confident in stating I’m far from the only person who routinely thinks about the various ways I’d theoretically try to smuggle various illegal items around the country or across international borders.

A lot of those thought exercises are sparked by stories concerning people who tried and failed to do exactly that, whether we’re talking about the cruise ship passenger who was caught with $2.8 million worth of cocaine hidden in bags of Cheetos or whoever dreamed up the idea of cramming crystal meth with a street value of more than $100 million in a vintage Bentley that was seized by authorities in Australia earlier this year.

I’m not going to tell on myself by listing the tactics I’d probably harness, but with that said, there are certainly a number of strategies I wouldn’t have to think twice about not deploying—including one that predictably backfired and forced the TSA to share one of the dumbest reminders imaginable.

The TSA has warned travelers not to try to smuggle a gun in the cavity of an uncooked chicken after someone was caught doing exactly that

While I’ve learned virtually everything I know about the art of smuggling from movies, true-crime documentaries, and news reports, it doesn’t take a genius to realize one of the last things you want to do is draw unnecessary attention to yourself when you’re committing a blatantly illegal act.

You’re already asking for trouble if your plan involves having your luggage screened at the airport by members of the TSA, so it’s typically a good idea to not pack anything that’s going to raise some red flags when your bag enters the scanner—like, say, an entire uncooked chicken.

Unfortunately, The Miami Herald reports that’s the route one woman opted to take when she allegedly recently headed to Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport for a flight to Port-au-Prince, Haiti only to have her travel plans derailed after the TSA discovered a handgun stuffed inside a raw chicken in her luggage.

After discovering the gun, the agency referred the case to Customs and Border Protection and issued a pun-filled warning to any flyers who somehow needed to be reminded this is not a good idea.

What a world.
