One valet worker bit back when a hotel guest was rude to him upon arrival. Viewers are lauding how he denied the hotel guest service.
Treating others how you want to be treated is a golden rule. Unfortunately, not everyone follows this rule, with some treating service workers poorly. Well, one valet worker bit back when a hotel guest was rude to him upon arrival.
In a TikTok with over 33,200 views, Nolan Meyer (@nolanrmeyer) reveals why he denied valet service to a rude customer.
Meyer shares that he’s been in the valet game for over three years and has never had to deny anyone valet service before—until he encountered a hotel guest that made a major mistake.
“I know you’re allowed to deny service from anybody, but I’ve never done it before until today. Whether their car is just extremely dirty, they’re terrible people, whatever it may be, I’ve just never done it until today,” he begins.
Meyer describes how a man with his girlfriend pulled up to the hotel and immediately was stand-offish. Meyer says he approached the man about checking into the hotel and to see if he wanted to valet the car. The man instantly gave Meyer an attitude, he says.
“He’s like, ‘Are there any other options?’” Meyer recalls.
Can You Really Get Denied Valet Service?
The valet worker says he reminded the man that they are in the center of a major city, so options are scarce. He says he listed out the different lots nearby but was cut off by the hotel guest mid-speech.
“‘Yeah, we’re doing valet today,’” he interrupted, per Meyer.
This interruption bothered Meyer, he says, but he proceeded to do his job.
However, the man was in his own world and headed directly into the hotel. Meyer says he tried to stop the man by asking him for his name and phone number for the valet. The man quickly yelled both in transit, but Meyer didn’t have his writing material close by, he shares.
“He’s not even looking at me. He’s just walking away towards the front desk,” Meyer continues.
Meyer tracked down the hotel guest and once again asked for his name and number. The hotel guest, Meyer says, was bothered that he didn’t get it written down the first time he said it. Meyer says he apologized for not having enough time to write it down and asked once again for the information.
“‘Dude, get out of here. Let me just get checked in,’” the hotel guest allegedly said.
“So I tell him, ‘All right, cool. You can park your own car tonight. You are not getting a valet. I’m denying service from you,’” Meyer says he responded.
This quickly upset the hotel guest as he turned around to confront Meyer, he continues.
“‘What? You’re denying valet? What do you mean?’” he allegedly questioned.
“I said, ‘I’m not parking your car,’” Meyer says he firmly responded.
“‘What do you mean, you’re not parking my car? Like, what am I supposed to do?’” Meyer says the hotel guest responded.
“‘I don’t know, and I don’t care. You’re acting like a child. Just won’t even look at me and talk to me like a man,’” Meyer recalls replying.
After a few moments, the hotel guest told Meyer he wasn’t going to move his car then. Meyer quickly informed the hotel guest that a tow truck would be called to tow the man’s vehicle. The man angrily checked into the hotel and left, Meyer recounts.
“He’s all mad and just staring at me the rest of the night,” Meyer concludes.
‘I’m Glad You Stuck Up For Yourself’
Viewers in the comments section applauded Meyer for standing up for himself.
“Good on you for standing up for yourself man. Entitlement should not get you far in this world,” one TikTok commenter wrote.
“I’m glad you stuck up for yourself,” another added.
“W self respect,” a third said.
Others noted that the hotel guest seemingly got his ego hurt.
“Dude probably never had someone actually stand up to him before,” one wrote.
“He was probably intimidated by how good you look and had a major ego moment,” another shared.
What To Do When Valeting Your Car
The last thing you want is to be denied valet service in the middle of downtown. It goes without saying, you should treat those in charge of driving and parking your vehicle with kindness and respect. As the hotel guest found out the hard way, valet companies can deny your valet request.
When the car keys are handed over to the valet, trust that your car will be safe, as valet workers are professionals, Unparalleled Parking shares. Valet workers park hundreds of cars of all shapes and sizes.
Before leaving the car, it is best to remove any valuables from the vehicle and bring them with you. Fetching a car due to forgetting your wallet or sunglasses is not ideal for the worker and yourself, so it’s best to double-check everything was grabbed before leaving.
Tipping isn’t required, but it’s always appreciated. Tips can wait until you leave the location to ensure great service was provided. Industry standards for tipping can be anywhere between 15% to 20%, NerdWallet reports. On a $20 valet, it would be $3 for 15% or $4 for 20%. Most people tend to hand over a $5 and call it a day.
Most importantly, it’s essential to keep track of your ticket. Losing a ticket can create havoc, especially during a busy rush. Treat the ticket like your car keys so that punctual service can be provided.
