Vancouver Restaurant Owner Speaks Out After San Francisco 49ers Scammer Takes Photo With His Son. Then Daejon Love Sends a Voice Note

It seems like everyone is popping up with a story about Daejon Love, the man who got caught pretending to be a San Francisco 49ers player and allegedly scamming women out of more than a million dollars total. The latest person to chime in about the alleged swindler is a Vancouver restaurant owner whose son posed with the fake player.

Commenters are saying that the restauranteur shouldn’t be up in arms since he benefited from the scam, even if in a very small way.

Restaurant Owner Spills

In a trending video with more than 81,000 views, restaurant owner Kris (@kris.england.cookss) looks back at the day Love walked into his business.

“Everything Daejon Love told me was a lie,” Kris says.

Kris explains that at the time, his waitresses were excited and called to tell him that a professional football player had just shown up at the restaurant. Kris wondered whether NBA star Damian Lillard had somehow sent Love his way, since the restaurant had previously prepared dinner for Lillard and his camp after the Olympics, so Kris says he went out to meet him.

When he arrived, he says Love complimented the food and chatted with Kris’ mother. He allegedly told them a tale about how he owned horses and needed to find a house for them. Weird detour.

But the biggest lie was him telling them he played for the 49ers’ practice squad, Kris says.

“In hindsight, like, when I go back and I really think about this, bro was, like, crazy lying,” Kris says.

To sell his story, Love was in a luxury car, dripped out in chains, racked up a big food bill, and tipped us like a gang of money. Like, he tipped me a lot. It was like $400 or $500,” Kris continues.

Kris’ son asked Love for a photo, which you can see in the video. The little boy looks incredibly happy and excited to be alongside who he thinks is a real football player.

The men exchanged numbers after Kris mentioned that he sometimes goes to California for music-production work. Kris says he also hit Love up later, asking if he wanted to appear in a YouTube video after one of his recent uploads took off.

The Voice Note

That is when Love sent one of his infamous voice notes.

In the recording, Love says he had been in Southern California handling family matters and gave Kris an update about his fake football career.

“I’m taking some time off from football, but I’m still training like I am playing this year,” Love says. “But I’m probably gonna play next year, to be honest with you.”

Love says he had not been to Vancouver in some time but planned to return during the winter and connect with Kris.

“I’ve been in SoCal with some family and s— getting some stuff situated,” he says.

Kris says he doesn’t seem to have super hard feelings about the situation. However, he says he feels bad for his son, who’s “pretty sad” after learning the man in the photo was not actually an NFL player.

Now he hopes the attention around the story might lead to his son meeting a real player.

Who Is Daejon Love?

Daejon Labrayae Love, 35, is accused of posing as a San Francisco 49ers player and wealthy real estate investor while participating in an alleged investment-fraud scheme that targeted women across four states.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Oregon says Love and Taylor Jamie Chan, 18, were charged by criminal complaint with conspiracy to commit wire fraud and wire fraud. Financial records allegedly show the pair received approximately $1.3 million from 26 identified victims. The FBI believes there may be more. Authorities arrested Love and Chan at the Boise Airport on Aug. 24, 2026.

Federal prosecutors say the alleged scheme began in February 2022. Love met many of the women through dating apps and allegedly convinced them that he wanted to build a relationship, wealth, and a future with them. Chan is accused of posing as Love’s financial adviser to make nonexistent investments appear legitimate.

Love allegedly used apps to display fake bank and investment balances. Prosecutors say he and Chan also shared fabricated messages and hosted three-way FaceTime calls showing supposed investment gains. Some women were allegedly encouraged to take out personal loans after Love promised they’d quickly repay them.

Potential Victim Chimes In

Rachel Anderson told Complex that she met Love for a date at a Portland restaurant in 2024. She said the encounter began falling apart within 10 minutes because Love talked nonstop and seemed self-absorbed.

Anderson, who was recently divorced at the time, said she believes Love looked for women he considered vulnerable. She says that while she did not fall for the alleged scheme, she could see how people who were more trusting may have given his stories the benefit of the doubt.

Complex also reported that the NFL and 49ers confirmed Love never worked for either organization.

Commenters Got Jokes

People in the comments section seemed amused by the story and didn’t think what he did to the restaurant owner was that bad in the grand scheme of things.

“He showed love tho, he did you right,” a top comment read.

“So he supported your business and left a big tip. what’s the issue,” a person said.

“Whenever anyone says ‘I ain’t gonna lie’ it’s a lie,” another added.

“I fell out when the voice note started playing. … I swear this cat loves the sound of his own voice,” a commenter wrote.
