Woman Packs Walmart Hammock In Her Bicycle—And Accidentally Captures A ‘Glitch In The Matrix.’ Now She’s Demanding Answers: ‘I Have No Idea Where This Came From’

Have you ever experienced something you just can’t explain?

While we like to think we have a pretty firm grasp on the limits of our world, we’re often reminded that there’s a whole lot we don’t know.

From trees that seem to move by themselves, to people seemingly disappearing into thin air, to mysterious creatures attacking cars in the night, there are a lot of freaky things that can happen that stretch the limits of our imagination.

Now, TikToker has gone viral after sharing her own odd experience—this one involving a hammock that appeared to come out of nowhere.

Where Did This Second Walmart Hammock Come From?

In a video with over 916,000 views, TikTok user Kiki (@user1114481448141814) says she bought a blue, two-person hammock from Walmart several months ago.

Recently, she was packing up when she put the hammock in the basket of her bicycle. After doing so, however, she noticed that there was another nearly-identical hammock—one that she had no recollection of buying.

“I have never had two hammocks,” she starts. “I have no idea where this came from.”

As the video progresses, she notes that the hammocks are not identical. The pattern on the bags is slightly different, and one of the hammocks has a grease stain. Still, Kiki is at a loss as to where the hammock came from.

“Did someone break into my f—– room?” she asks. “Did someone, like, leave one in my bike basket when I was, like, hammocking one time? … But then, who would give me the exact [laughing] same f—– hammock?”

Commenters Share Their Own ‘Glitches In The Matrix’

Many internet users like to use the phrase “glitch in the matrix” to describe things or events that defy explanation. A subreddit on the topic currently has over 1.3 million followers.

While some of these incidents can be explained away, others are genuinely creepy. In the comments section, users detailed their own bizarre “glitches.”

“My daughters favorite toy randomly this week,” one user wrote, attaching a picture of two identical toys.

“My son’s favorite book started to break on the spine so I made a mental note that I need to get a new one.. a few days later I was going through his bookshelf and found a second, unbroken version of his book,” offered another. “He’s literally only ever had one, I have NO idea where the other one came from.”

“I have 2 identical pairs of work boots. Never bought 2. I always put them on at work they stay in my locker,” a third recounted. “One day got to work and they weren’t there? Ok maybe I wore them home by accident. I get home and they’re there ok cool. Next day I wear them to work and the same pair of boots are in my locker even tho I was WEARING THEM.”

Is There An Explanation?

There are a few possible explanations for what happened here.

First, Kiki’s theory could be right. Someone may have seen her with the hammock, then noticed a similar hammock later and gave it to her, thinking that it belonged to her. She could have simply forgotten or not noticed that this occurred.

Alternatively, she could have just bought two hammocks in the first place, then forgotten about the second hammock purchase. Even if she distinctly remembers buying only one hammock, our memory is pretty fallible. It’s totally possible that she bought two and meant to give one away or simply forgot about it, only to discover it later.

Finally, she could have accidentally grabbed a stranger’s hammock. When a product is sold at a major retailer like Walmart, chances are high that there are going to be quite a few of them around. Given this, it’s pretty easy to imagine accidentally finding someone else’s hammock and grabbing it, thinking that it’s your own.
