Police officers are taught to expect the unexpected when they find themselves engaged in a high-speed chase with someone who’s intent on escaping. That was certainly the case with a pursuit that recently unfolded in Wisconsin, which ended shortly after a driver launched himself off a hill and flew over a car that was passing by on the road below.

The internet has been a godsend for people like myself who developed a healthy appetite for police chases after growing up on a steady diet of television shows and VHS tapes that promised to deliver the wildest ones caught on camera.

Los Angeles has managed to hold onto its title as the Police Chase Capital of America as online platforms have become the go-to vehicle for the distribution of that footage, but the internet has made it easy for other locales that may have previously been overlooked to get in on the action.

Law enforcement agencies around the country are uploading new footage of those chases on a daily basis, and we’ve been treated to one of the crazier clips I’ve come across in recent memory thanks to what went down in Wisconsin earlier this month.

A police dashcam captured a driver in Wisconsin launching his vehicle over another car during a high-speed pursuit

According to Fox6, a state trooper in Wisconsin pulled over a driver on I-41 near Fond du Lac on the morning of May 9th and called for backup after discovering he had an active warrant for his arrest out in Kenosha County.

The Milwaukee resident seemingly realized his arrest was imminent when additional vehicles arrived on the scene, and he responded to that development by flooring it to kick off a high-speed pursuit that began on the highway.

Things ended up going awry when he turned onto an exit ramp before skidding into an embankment next to it, and one of the officers pursuing him let out an audible “Oooh s—!” when he used a hill as a ramp that sent the car flying over another one that was driving along the road the vehicle cleared before crashing down on the other side of it.

The Fond Du Lac Sheriff’s  Office shared a longer video that also captured the brief foot chase that unfolded in the wake of the crash before the 44-year-old suspect was taken into custody.

The warrant that sparked the pursuit stemmed from a failure to appear in court after he was previously charged with operating a motor vehicle without the owner’s consent, and he was hit with some new ones including fleeing and eluding, recklessly endangering safety, resisting an officer, and the illegal possession of marijuana and a firearm.
