New York Jets owner Woody Johnson, who served as the United States ambassador to the United Kingdom from 2017 to 2021 under indicted former President Donald Trump, has weighed in on those long-running reports that Robert F. Kennedy Jr. considered Aaron Rodgers to be his running mate and Vice Presidential candidate.

Based on Johnson’s comments, it certainly sounds like those rumors and reports were real, as Johnson said categorized RFK’s consideration of Rodgers as a “momentary distraction” and likened it to the controversial 40-year-old quarterback doing a darkness retreat.

“He is getting back to football 100%. He never left football,” Johnson told Fox News. “That was a momentary distraction, maybe like going in the dark room or whatever. But he’s back 100%. Great leader. … If we can keep him on his feet, which I think we can, it’s going to be an exciting start to the season.”

Robert F Kennedy Jr., a former Democrat that is running as an independent in the 2024 Presidential election, ultimately picked California lawyer Nicole Shanahan as his running mate back in late March.

As for Rodgers and the Jets, they’ll be looking to make good on the 2024 season after the 2023 campaign turned into a disaster following Rodgers’ torn Achilles in the first game of the season.

This offseason, in an effort to go all in on Rodgers, the Jets have added pieces such as wide receiver Mike Williams, pass rusher Hasson Reddick (although they did lose Bryce Huff), offensive tackle Tyron Smith, backup quarterback Tyrod Taylor, and more.

Despite his injury, Rodgers remained in the headlines with weekly appearances on The Pat McAfee Show, where he’d make controversial and conspiratorial statements — such as tying Jimmy Kimmell to Jeffrey Epstein — and bold claims about a potential return from injury.

Rodgers would eventually admit that his public flirtation with returning to the field during the 2023 season, he knew it was “unrealistic.”
