This week, the podcast Serial kicked off season 2 (because podcasts have seasons now) and the popular show is tackling the story of US solider Bowe Bergdahl. Bergdahl was held captive by the Taliban-aligned Haqqani network in Afghanistan from June 2009 until his release in May 2014. Bergdahl was apprehended after leaving his post and “wanting to start a new life.”
Eugene Fidell, Bergdahl’s attorney, told NBC News that “the podcast will help explain Bergdahl’s motives” for leaving his post in the middle of the night.
“We’ve been anxious for the American people to know the facts and circumstances,” Fidell said. “The more the people know, the better.”
