Remember That Wacko VJ Jesse Camp From ‘TRL’ Back In The Day? This Is What He Looks Like Today

Remember when we let that dude Jesse Camp into our home back in the late 90’s? We’d come home from school, turn on TRL to ideally get a glimpse of Britney Spears’ side boob, and this Big Bird would be speaking to us with that signature California stoner/lifelong smoker voice. I gotta admit, I was kind of into his schtick, even though his hair looked like he was just struck by lightning. He was wearing skinny jeans before skinny jeans were cool. I don’t know whether to love him or hate him for that.

Jesse bested over 5,000 contestants to win MTV’s Wanna Be A VJ competition, including MTV staple Dave Holmes. He would go on to host TRL for a year and a half before disappearing from the public eye almost entirely. Welp, Jesse got into the drugs, but at age 36, he now claims he’s been sober for almost 7 years.

From the looks of it, he looks decently healthy (or more than I thought he would), and he’s let his hair fall. A true sign of maturity.

Matt’s love of writing was born during a sixth grade assembly when it was announced that his essay titled “Why Drugs Are Bad” had taken first prize in D.A.R.E.’s grade-wide contest. The anti-drug people gave him a $50 savings bond for his brave contribution to crime-fighting, and upon the bond’s maturity 10 years later, he used it to buy his very first bag of marijuana.
