Back in November of last year we got our first look at the 2019 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 supercar, the most powerful and fastest Vette ever. Back then there was talk that the 2019 Corvette ZR1 was not only the fastest Vette ever, but the fastest street-legal car GM has ever produced.
Utilizing a 6.2-liter supercharged LT5 V-8 engine producing 755 horsepower and 715 lb-ft of torque would reportedly be able to hit 210mph thanks, in part, to a intercooled 2.65-liter Eaton supercharger (nicknamed the BAS or “big ass supercharger” by Corvette engineers). The ZR1 also boasts Corvette’s first dual fuel direct injection system with supplemental port injection and a 4-inch throttle body, the largest ever for a Vette.
Fast forward four months and we can now confirm that the specs being touted for the 2019 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 have been confirmed as it set a new lap record on the 4.1-mile Grand Course West at Virginia International Raceway with a time of 2:37.25.
The version of the ZR1 to set the record was equipped with the available paddle-shift eight-speed automatic and ZTK Performance Package ($2,995), which includes an adjustable carbon-fiber High Wing, a front splitter with carbon-fiber end caps, Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 summer-only tires, and specific chassis and Magnetic Ride Control tuning.
The ZR1 also proved it could go from 0 to 60 in a neck-snapping 2.85 seconds, 0 to 100 in 100 mph 6.0 seconds flat, and blast through a quarter-mile in just 10.6 seconds.
For comparison, the $308,859 2019 Lamborghini Huracan Performante Spyder goes from 0 to 62 mph in 3.1 seconds and the 2019 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 supercar will carry a suggested retail price of $119,995.
“The Corvette ZR1’s lap record at VIR, arguably America’s most challenging road course, is a testament to its supercar status,” said Mark Reuss, executive vice president, Global Product Development, Purchasing and Supply Chain. “On the racetrack, the ZR1 can compete with any supercar — at any price.”
Man ain’t lying.
Oh yeah, it also has an optional Sebring Orange Design Package.
