Basil Hayden’s Caribbean Reserve Rye

Basil Hayden’s Caribbean Reserve Rye was released back in June but I had to sing its praises today because I finally got around to sipping on this delicious spirit last weekend, giving it the attention it deserves, and I’m hooked. This is probably my favorite release of 2019 so far, of any type of spirit (Bourbon, Rye, Single-Malt, Gin, Vodka, etc).
The Caribbean Reserve Rye has a suggested retail price of $44.99 for a 750ml bottle and that’s well worth it. It is well balanced between vanilla, caramel, and brown sugar on the nose and it’s sweet but robust on the tongue. This is a blend 8-year-old Kentucky Straight Rye Whiskey, 4-year-old Canadian Rye, and it’s finished by adding Black Strap Rum.
I think I was a little bit lazy in getting around to really giving this my full attention because of the Rum element but that’s honestly what makes this one of the best spirits I’ve ever sampled. This was born out of a dream from Thor Drake of See See Motorcycles who wanted to cook while cruising, and Traeger + Indian Motorcycles teamed up to make that happen by creating a custom-built bike with a fully-functional Traeger Traeger Ironwood Grill attached in the sidecar. This unique creation will debut at the 2019 Sturgis Motorcycle Rally.
