Catch these movies free on Plex this August before they're gone

It’s a great time to enjoy some movies. With all the talk of highly anticipated films debuting against each other, I can’t help but feel nostalgic about beating the heat to enjoy a summer blockbuster. Feels like a lost pastime. If you’re looking for a good binge from the comfort of your own couch, I’d recommend tuning in to one of the many movies that are FREE to watch on Plex.

Here are some of my personal picks that come off Plex this month, so you won’t want to miss them:

An American Werewolf in London (1981)

John Landis is one of those directors from the 1980s that seemed to put out nothing but spectacular movies, and An American Werewolf in London is no exception. The perfect balance of horror, comedy, and ’80s over-the-top camp, this cult classic is insanely rewatchable.

Heat (1995)

I mean, come on. Pacino vs De Niro in a crime thriller? I’m admittedly a sucker for any movie where De Niro is committing crimes, but this one sometimes gets overlooked compared to his other gangster movies. Plus, you get a killer supporting cast that includes Val Kilmer, Danny Trejo, and Tom Sizemore with some of the best robbery and shootout scenes you’ll ever watch.

The Great Debaters (2007)

Here’s a good rule of thumb: if you’re unsure about watching a movie and it’s starring Denzel Washington, watch it. Based on the true story of the all-Black Wiley College debate team in 1935, this film packs a 1-2 punch of Oscar winners in Denzel and Forest Whitaker. Can’t go wrong with a billing like that.

Secretary (2002)

This one is certainly…interesting. The erotic drama/thriller feels like a genre that went extinct 20 years ago. They’re not everyone’s cup of tea, but they’re never boring. Maggie Gyllenhaal plays an emotionally disturbed secretary who engages in a rather-kinky affair with her lawyer boss (played by James Spader). No spoilers, but this movie has one of the more bizarre endings I’ve ever seen in a plot.
