My wife and I love breweries and distilleries. We have quite a few of them in Wisconsin, but we also love trying new ones when we’re on the road. Visiting my parents down here in Vero Beach, Florida, we recently visited the new 21st Amendment Distillery. The cocktails were delicious, but we also had a great time talking to the owner, an ex-Marine who honors his fellow veterans with a Veteran Wall of Honor at the bar. If you’re looking to tie one on and support veterans’ businesses, Grunt Style and American Grit have a list of five of the best veteran-owned breweries and distilleries in the country.

Horse Soldier Distillery (Somerset, Kentucky): Named after the legendary post-9/11 soldiers in Afghanistan (as seen in the movie 12 Strong). A fine addition to the Bourbon Trail.

Dog Tag Brewing Company (Boise, Idaho): It could be enough for ex-Marine Seth Jordan to just brew delicious beers. He took it a step further by donating 100% of the brewery’s profits to charities benefiting Gold Star families

Service Brewing Company (Savannah, Georgia): Since opening almost a decade ago, Service Brewing has raised tens of thousands of dollars for various charities aimed at assisting veterans and first responders.

Honor Brewing Company (Chantilly, Virginia): Enjoy an Honor Golden Ale and Honor Warrior Double IPA from Navy vet Scott Johnson, who through the brewery has actively partnered with organizations focused on veteran employment and mental health initiatives.

Red Leg Brewing Company (Colorado Springs, Colorado): Named in honor of the red stripe on the trousers worn by artillery soldiers during the Civil War. Army vet Todd Baldwin is brewing up delicious beers like the Devil Dog Stout and the Howitzer Amber in the shadow of the Rockies.
