Earlier this week we received the news that Apple is releasing three new phones that are modeled after the iPhone X. Now we get word that Samsung is also releasing three different models of the Galaxy S9. The exciting part is that you won’t have to wait very long because the release of Samsung’s flagship phone is only a few months away and it has some new features that you’ve been begging for.

Typically, Samsung releases two Galaxy phones, a regular S model and a larger S+ model. The upcoming Samsung Galaxy will be offered in three different models including the S9, the S9+, and the S9 mini. The rumors are that the S9 will feature a 5.8-inch screen, the S9+ will boast a 6.2-inch display, and the S9 mini will have a screen under 5 inches. All of the models are said to have a curved Infinity display as seen in the Galaxy S8. This wouldn’t be the first time Samsung offered a smaller variant of their flagship phone. Previously, they offered the Galaxy S3 mini, Galaxy S4 mini, and Galaxy S5 mini. Samsung may add a fourth phone to the mix by releasing the Galaxy S9 Active a few months later for consumers who want a more rugged and durable smartphone.

In other Galaxy S9 news, the Galaxy S9 line is expected to ship with the lightning fast Qualcomm Snapdragon 845, which would make the S9 the fastest Android phone ever. There is also said to be a 3D front-facing sensor that will allow for more accurate and more secure facial scanning. This feature would mirror Apple’s TrueDepth camera that enables the 3D facial recognition feature called Face ID. Unlike other phone manufacturers, it is said that Samsung will continue to offer a 3.5mm headphone jack in the Galaxy S9. There are also rumors swirling that the phone will come with a new wireless AKG headset.

It also sounds like Samsung will correct two of the biggest disappointments with the S8: the camera and the placement of the fingerprint sensor. Alleged leaks suggest that the S9 will finally provide the highly-coveted dual-lens camera to the Galaxy series. This would provide the S9 to take much better photos especially in depth of field and in low light situations. On the S8, the fingerprint sensor was right next to the rear camera, meaning users smudged the camera lens every time they attempted to use the fingerprint sensor. Leaked CAD renders of the Galaxy S9 show that Samsung has corrected that issue by moving the fingerprint scanner the the center of the back of the phone.

The one disheartening bit of news about the S9 is that the fingerprint sensor will not be built into the front screen as many had hoped. Samsung may very well be holding onto that feature for the Galaxy Note 9.

Tech insiders expect Samsung to launch the new line of Galaxy S9 handsets on Sunday, February 25, 2018. This is the day before the Mobile World Congress kicks off on February 26 and lasts until March 1 in Barcelona, Spain. Samsung expects to dominate the world’s largest exhibition for the mobile industry and grab most of the headlines with the launch of the S9 phones. There are already some great Black Friday deals on the Galaxy S8, but you may want to hold out a few months until the S9 is available.
