I don’t know about you, but these dog days of summer are getting pretty taxing as a sports fan (especially when the conclusion of the baseball season is starting to feel more and more inevitable). How desperate are fans for more sports? My wife and I are driving to New York this week to visit my parents, so we were going to make Canton, Ohio, our halfway point and visit the Football Hall of Fame. No such luck. All of the hotels in the area are booked up for the Hall of Fame Game – a PRESEASON GAME. Yeah, we need more sports on the air.
I might be biased against the excitement surrounding preseason football, but that’s only because it just makes me hungrier for meaningful games. But fret not. Real football is right around the corner, and the start of basketball is not long after that. It should be a fascinating season, especially given the flurry of league-altering moves. That should lead to plenty of colorful discussions on Inside the NBA (perhaps the last worthwhile programming on ESPN). Speaking of Charles Barkley, Nike just released a new edition of his Air Max2 CB ’94 shoes!

I was too young to experience Barkley in his prime, but I always pop for a highlight reel of The Round Mound of Rebound. The dude was electric. Too bad his prime overlapped with that one guy from Chicago who kept winning all the trophies and dominated the basketball shoe game. Still, doesn’t make these throwbacks kick any less fresh.
