When Is ‘Red Dead Redemption 2’ Coming Out? Release Date, Rumors, News, Trailers

“When is Red Dead Redemption 2 coming out?” That’s the question that every fan of the popular Wild West video game has been asking since Rockstar Games announced the game in October 2016. It’s been over seven years since the original Red Dead Redemption was released on May 18, 2010, and 13 years since Red Dead Revolver came out on May 3, 2004. The release date of Red Dead Redemption 2 was delayed, but it is definitely coming to a console near you in the near future, but when?

Red Dead Redemption 2 originally had a release date of Fall 2017, but that was before delays pushed back the debut of the highly anticipated third-person shooter game. Rockstar Games understands that the expectations are sky-high for any title they release, especially Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead Redemption, so it makes sense to delay the game to ensure it is as perfect as it can be instead of rushing it out on the market.

Rockstar Games explained the reason for the delay in a post on their site. “Some extra time is necessary to ensure that we can deliver the best experience possible for our fans.” The video game publisher said. “We are very sorry for any disappointment this delay causes, but we are firm believers in delivering a game only when it is ready,” the statement from Rockstar read.

To make up for the delay, Rockstar Games provided new screenshots of the open-world video game to satiate the unquenchable appetites of gamers, which you can see below as well as the trailers for the game. The latest news is that Red Dead Redemption 2 is coming out in Spring 2018. That is a pretty large window, since Spring 2018 begins on Tuesday, March 20 and ends on Thursday, June 21. Polygon reported that Red Dead Redemption 2 will launch sometime after April 1, 2018.

As far as the game, Rockstar had this to say about Red Dead Redemption 2, “This outlaw epic set across the vast and unforgiving American heartland will be the first Rockstar game created from the ground up for the latest generation of console hardware.” RDR2 is a prequel to Red Dead Redemption that takes place in the Old West set in the 1800s. Expect shanty towns, saloons, bustling general stores, and shootouts in the dusty streets as well as dealing with the harsh habitat of deserts, mountains and the Great Plains. The main character and protagonist of RDR2 is Arthur Morgan, an outlaw affiliated with the Dutch van der Linde gang. Based on the two trailers (seen below), Morgan will be traversing the Wild West engaging in gunfights with bandits, herding cattle, and collected money from people who probably don’t want to pay at all costs. Joining Morgan are seven characters (a la The Magnificent 7), which will probably be integral in both single and multiplayer game modes.

Rockstar’s glorious western adventure will be available on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Unfortunately, it does not sound like Red Dead Redemption 2 will be made for older generation consoles such as PS3 and Xbox 360.
