Kate Upton Disses The Very Thing That Made Her Famous, Says Social Media Is ‘Kind Of Bullshit’

Kate Upton, who owes a huge portion of her being ultra-famous to the fact that she went viral doing the Dougie at a Clippers game in 2011, now thinks social media is “kind of bullshit.” Is she now biting the hand that feeds?

Speaking to Net-A-Porter for for her cover shoot Kate Upton had this to say…

“I feel like social media at this point is kind of bullshit. At the beginning it was amazing and a lot of fun. It was like, ‘Cool, I can talk to my fans!’ And now I think that we’re losing the art of it. When I first joined Twitter it was just me, but [when] you’ve got contracts, it’s so planned. Now it’s about who has the best marketing, not who has a really good personality.”

She does make some valid points. Much of celebrity Twitter is a now a minefield of carefully planned marketing campaigns, but that doesn’t mean she has to participate in that way.

Upton also talked about the scrutiny she feels online…

“[It was really hard] because I actually cared what people thought. The only thing I do for other people now is cook,” she says. “That’s the only place in my life where I care what they think. I’ve heard people say, you put yourself in that position to be judged. But no, I put myself in that position because I really liked that photographer. I wanted to do that piece of work. Not to be judged. The Internet can be horrible, so I just don’t look at it anymore. But maybe a bit of hate is good for me. Because if I’m in a spot where everyone loves me, I won’t try as hard.”

Being a professional model who doesn’t want to be judged is definitely a bit of a conundrum. The two pretty much go hand-in-hand. I guess she can always go into cooking since she enjoys doing that. Oh, wait, they judge you there too, don’t they? Hmmm…

Cat daddy, anyone?
