WWE roster cuts announced as eleven wrestlers are released — UPDATED

via WWE

Huge news of WWE roster cuts this morning as the federation trimmed the roster by releasing eleven superstars.

The company announced WWE roster cuts of WWE Diva Aksana, former Smackdown General Manager Teddy Long, Brodus Clay, Yoshi Tatsu, Evan Bourne, Jinder Mahal, Drew McIntyre, Curt Hawkins and referee Marc Harris.

This latest round of WWE roster cuts and the names attached shouldn’t come as a surprise to most fans.

WWE roster cuts included two former champs, GM

Teddy Long hasn’t been on WWE TV in months, when he was removed by his Smackdown GM replacement, Vickie Guerrero. Long had been with the WWE for 16 years.

Brodus Clay had moderate success in 2013 as part of The Funkasaurus and Tons of Funk. He was the runner-up on the fourth season of NXT. Yoshi Tatsu was one of the thirty-one WWE Superstars featured in the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal at WrestleMania XXX. He was eliminated by The Great Khali, and since that match, had only appeared onNXT.

Evan Bourne and Curt Hawkins, both former tag team champions but not as partners, saw their roles  in the company diminish over the past few years. Camacho’s last notable TV appearance was a feud with Adam Rose on NXT, which began when Camacho attacked one of Rose’s followers after a match.  Mahal and McIntyre — two of the three members of 3MB — have been stuck in a feud with Los Matadores that was more focused on Hornswoggle and El Torito.

If forced to choose the most surprising name on the list of WWE roster cuts, I’d say Aksana is pretty shocking. She re-teamed with former partner Alicia Fox on Raw a few weeks back to take on Nikki Bella in a handicap match. Considering the Diva division is a little light these days with the loss of AJ Lee and “quitting” of Brie Bella, it seems like Aksana would be kept on payroll just to have enough Divas for house shows.

The company wished all of the talent well after this latest round of WWE roster cuts. I’ve got a feeling there are more cuts to come in the next couple hours.

UPDATED: JTG released this afternoon
