3 Lean Burger Recipes For Your Next BBQ

Summer isn’t over yet, bros.

Unofficially, it doesn’t end until Labor Day. Which means that you still have the rest of July and all of August to fire up your grill and cook burgers before the winds of winter descend.

To help you throw the best party in town, here are some amazing, and lean, burger recipes you can whip up for your next cook out.

The Ludicrously Lean Hotlanta Pork Burger

1 pound of Extra Lean (95% fat free) Ground Pork

1 small diced onion

1 diced jalapeno

¼ cup chopped fresh cilantro

¼ cup hot sauce

2 peaches

2 teaspoons vegetable/sesame oil

1 tablespoon brown sugar

1 teaspoon cinnamon

Whole Wheat Buns

Dice the onion, jalapeno, and fresh cilantro, combining into a bowl. Add in the meat then pour the ¼ cup of hot sauce over the pork. Mix the meat, hot sauce, onion, jalapenos, and cilantro into a giant ball of meat.

Divide the meat into 4 burger patties. Each should weigh around 4 ounces.

Cover the meat and let it sit until you’re done with the next step.

**PLEASE, wash your hands, you don’t want to touch your eyes or face after your hands have touched jalapenos.**

Combine the cinnamon and brown sugar in a bowl. Slice the peaches into slivers and then lightly brush with oil.

Dip each sliver into the cinnamon and sugar mix—lightly coating each peach slice.

Now, head to the grill and cook those burgers. After 2-3 minutes, place the peaches on the grill, making sure to flip them until each side has formed grill lines.

Once the meat is done. Place it on a bun and top the burger with the peach slices.

The Classic Double Half Pounder

Alright, so you’re a bro who likes old fashioned burgers: meat, cheese, bread, the end.

I’ll keep this one simple. To keep that lean summer bod for a few more weeks, you’ll want to use low-fat high protein cheese for your classic burger. My favorite is Cabot’s 75% Fat-Free Cheese.

1 pound of 96/4 Lean Ground Beef

Sesame Seed Buns

2 ounces of Cabot 75% Fat-Free Cheese

Salt and Pepper

Sprinkle the salt and pepper on the meat and create four 4-ounce patties.

Slice up 2 ounces of Cabot 75% Fat-Free Cheese. This cheese has 60 calories and is packed with 9 grams of protein per ounce.

Cook the burgers, adding the cheese on top right before you take them off, place two patties on your bun and enjoy.

The Not-So-Lean-But-Oh-So-Damn-Good Burger

1 pound of lamb (you’ll only use 8 ounces for this recipe)

1 pound of 96/4 lean ground beef

Salt and pepper

Mesquite seasoning

Bacon

American cheese

Hamburger buns

I admit, this burger isn’t super lean, but goddamn it’s packed full of so much taste it will blow your mind.

Weigh out 2-ounce patties of ground lamb and 4-ounce patties of hamburger.

Take your 2-ounce lamb patty and mix it with your 4-ounce ground hamburger patty.

Season each patty with salt and pepper and a shake or two of mesquite seasoning.

Cook the patties until they reach your desired level of doneness.

While the meat cooks on the grill, cook the bacon.

Remove the burgers from the grill and top with bacon and a slice of American cheese.

Become the Grill Master

Bros, there are still plenty of days to stand by the grill, cook burgers, drink beers, and enjoy the rest of summer.

These are great burgers to share with friends, but you can also sub in lean ground chicken or turkey to these recipes and make burgers that are even more packed with protein and lower in fat.

Be aware, however, that fat free ground chicken and turkey will need plenty of spices added to them to make them taste their best.

Stay leaner longer this summer by making these burgers the next time you have people over for a cookout.
