Monstrous Humpback Whale Breached So Close To Boat That It Flung Fish In It

A giant humpback whale breached so close to a small boat that it flung several fish inside the vessel. Paul Ziolkowski of Union Beach, New Jersey was with family and friends fishing about a mile off the coast of New York City in New Jersey waters. They spotted a humpback whale and decided to get a closer peek. Suddenly the gigantic whale breached only feet away from the boat while it was near the Verrazano Narrows Bridge.

“This definitely was one of the craziest experiences in my life and I’ve had many, who — would have thought I would see some Moby Dick — right here outside the Verrazano on my boys 19 footer. That humpback was chasing bunker all the way up to the side jumped out of the water and tapped the hull of my boat, knocking bunker into the boat. Crazy, I know it sounds like a fish story LOL but these #NewJersey waters are serious,” he wrote.

Sounds like all fun and games until a humpback whale is on your dingy. Not sure if the appropriate response to this near-death experience should have been the equivalent of, “WOOOOAH! THAT WAS SO COOL THAT A 30-TON WATER MONSTER THE SIZE OF A TRACTOR TRAILER ALMOST OBLITERATED OUR BOAT THAT IS A THIRD OF THE SIZE OF THAT BEHEMOTH!!!”
