Jim Carrey To Star As ‘Sonic The Hedgehog’ Villain Robotnik

Sonic the Hedgehog first came into our lives on June 23, 1991, on the Sega Genesis. Since then, everybody’s favorite spiny blue mammal has been in 26 video games, comic books, and TV shows. And soon, a movie that will star Jim Carrey.

According to Deadline, Carrey will play Sonic The Hedgehog villain Robotnik in the upcoming live-action/CGI movie and he is hell-bent on world domination.

The Sonic the Hedgehog series has sold more than 80 million physical copies of games and over 350 million units between software and mobile downloads. Deadpool director Tim Miller has already written the script and will produce. The video game film will be directed by Jeff Fowler, who helmed Where the Wild Things Are.

James Marsden, of Westworld and Saved by the Bell fame, is set to play the lead as a cop who befriends Sonic on his solo adventure. Marsden is also set to appear in Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood with a tremendous ensemble cast. Tika Sumpter from Ride Along will star as the female lead. The voice of Sonic the Hedgehog has yet to be named. Sonic the Hedgehog is scheduled to speed into theaters on November 15, 2019.
