I live in NYC, which has a reputation for being a “rude” city filled with assholes. First-hand experience tells me that this is patently false. Whenever I’ve been in a situation where someone is hurt or in need of assistance, I’m consistently amazed by how quickly random strangers are willing to come to the aid of a person in distress.
China, on the other hand, appears to have the backbone of a jellyfish. I’ve heard plenty of stories about how China has a good samaritan problem, in which people never want to put themselves in harm’s way to help out another, but this is just ridiculous. It’s so absurd that you can’t help but laugh.
This foreigner passes out on a Shanghai train, and rather than trying to help the man, or see if he’s okay, the passengers react as if he’s just revealed a bomb vest he has attached to his chest. It’s as if they’re actually frightened by the prospect of someone being hurt. “Oh my god, this guy could be in need of medical attention…. RUNNNNNNNN!!!!!!”
This is a video you’ve gotta see to believe.
