Tom Brady Shows Support For Marathon Bombing Victim Running Her First Marathon With Prosthetic Leg

Adrianne Haslet was one of 17 people to lose a limb during the 2013 Boston Marathon Bombings. The dance instructor lost the lower part of her left leg below her knee on that tragic day, but refused to label herself as a victim. She wrote on her website, “I am not defined by what happened in my life. I am defined by how I live my life.”

Haslet joined the 30,000 athletes running 26.2 miles on a picturesque 60 degree day in Boston after quietly beginning to train last fall. Not a natural runner, Haslet said her mindset changed after that fateful day in 2013, allowing her to push through the training on her prosthetic blade.

She told Boston.com,

“I could do quickstep all day long, I could dance all day, but running, you use different muscles and it takes a different mindset,” she said. “But then everything changed in 2013.”

Haslet is running today in honor of everyone who reached out to survivors after the attack — sending letters, cards, donations, and well-wishes. She is running to raise money for Limbs for Life, a nonprofit that provides fully-functional prosthetic care for those who can’t afford it.

I’m just glad Brady wasn’t there to dap Adrianne up at the finish line. Historically, that has not gone well…

P.S. Yo little Brady–how does your brain feel?

Matt’s love of writing was born during a sixth grade assembly when it was announced that his essay titled “Why Drugs Are Bad” had taken first prize in D.A.R.E.’s grade-wide contest. The anti-drug people gave him a $50 savings bond for his brave contribution to crime-fighting, and upon the bond’s maturity 10 years later, he used it to buy his very first bag of marijuana.
