Hardly a week has gone by in 2017 in which we didn’t try to help a brother out with some new and unique dating trends and advice. While there are now many more avenues to finding a date than there were even 10 years ago, it doesn’t mean a bro couldn’t still use a little assist now and then.

We literally try to leave no stone unturned when it comes to helping a fellow bro not only score some dates, but make sure that they also have a decent shot at developing into something resembling a successful relationship.

From what it means when you call your partner pet names to how to choose the best profile photo to what are the best opening lines to use on a dating app, we do our best to make sure you’re covered.

So, with 2017 mercifully nearing its end, the dating-mavens over at online dating site and app Zoosk decided to take a scientific look back at just what exactly we may have learned about dating in 2017.

To determine the list of 2017’s biggest dating trends below, Zoosk used data culled from their dating site and app’s over 40 million members to take the pulse of what the world of dating looked like in 2017, as well as how dating has changed and evolved when compared to years previous.

Here’s what they uncovered. Might want to take a few notes.

1. Nice guys finish first.

Men who have words like thoughtful, listener, polite, giving, community, give back, or friendly in their profile get up to 66% more messages than the average profile.

2. It’s time to cool it with the filters.

A study found that while people who use filters like “non-smoking” and “college-educated” send out more messages, they end up receiving 11% fewer replies than people who use no filters.

3. More people are dating outside their age range.

In 2017, people were 9% more likely to like, message, or have a conversation with someone ten years older or younger than them than they were in 2016.

4. A higher education makes you more attractive.

People who have a bachelor’s or advanced degree receive up to 17% more replies to their messages.

5. Food, especially guacamole, could land you a date.

Mentioning guacamole in your dating profile could get you up to 144% more inbound messages. Mentioning potatoes increased inbound messages by 101% and chocolate increased them by 100%. (Here are even more foods that might help you out.)

6. There’s no longer a stigma against vegans or vegetarians.

In 2015, messages that mentioned being a vegetarian got 100% fewer replies than the average. But in 2017, saying you’re a vegetarian actually gets you 3% more replies. Plus, people who mention vegan get 62% more incoming messages than the average online profile.

7. Lunch dates are in.

Messages that mention lunch get 25% more responses than average, however, mentioning coffee, dinner, and drinks results in up to 13% fewer messages.

8. The most talkative women on dating apps live in Ohio, while men are more spread out.

In 2017, Ohio women messaged more often than the women in any other U.S. state. (Three of the top five cities.)

9. If you wait too long to respond to someone, you could end up dateless.

Messaging someone back within the same day results in a 62% response rate, but after waiting two days the rate drops to 45%.

10. The most active day for dating apps was November 15th. But the most active month was January.

There were 11% more singles actively online dating on November 15th than any other day of the year. January, however, was the most active month, with 9% more singles online than the average.
