The Ryder Cup will be heading to Ireland for the second time when the showdown is hosted at Adare Manor in 2027. Organizers have a couple of years to sort out the many logistical issues they’ll have to deal with, including a lack of accommodations that could force some fans to stay on cruise ships while attending the event.
A grand total of 244,858 people attended the Ryder Cup when it was held at Bethpage Black in 2025, but most of them stayed somewhere else on Long Island or in New York City due to the lack of lodging options in a relatively tiny town that’s home to around 16,000 people.
The Europeans will be hoping to secure their third straight victory with home-course advantage on their side when the international affair heads back across the Atlantic and arrives in Ireland in 2027.
The Emerald Isle hosted it for the first time when it was held at the K Club in County Kildare in 2006, with the majority of attendees opting to stay in Dublin and travel around an hour west to watch the tournament in person.
The capital city, which boasts a population of over 1.5 million, is a bit more equipped to deal with an influx of visitors than Limerick, which will be the primary hub when the Ryder Cup heads to Adare Manor.
The resort is located around 30 minutes from the heart of a city that’s home to around 100,000 people, and while it does have its fair share of hotels, some visitors may need to stay in a fairly unconventional spot due to a shortage of rooms.
Cruise ships are being floated as a lodging option for the 2027 Ryder Cup in Ireland
Organizers expect around 200,000 people to attend the Ryder Cup in 2027, and they’ll be grappling with plenty of headaches in a region that’s not really used to accommodating an influx of that size.
According to The Times, construction began on a bypass designed to direct traffic away from the village that’s home to Adare Manor, and while there are plans to reduce congestion with designated parking areas offering shuttles to the course, there are lingering budgetary concerns that could serve as a hurdle.
The outlet reports local officials are concerned that Limerick and the surrounding area lack enough hotel rooms to meet demand, and a potential solution has been introduced that would involve docking some cruise ships on the Shannon Estuary in Foynes (the port located around 15 miles west of the course) and ferrying fans and staff to the Ryder Cup via light rail.
There is still plenty of time for a concrete plan to come together, as the tournament won’t officially kick off until September 17, 2027.
