The San Francisco 49ers have an interesting quarterback situation. It seems the franchise likes Brock Purdy, but is weary of his injury.
Meanwhile, they have Trey Lance on the roster and also signed Sam Darnold in free agency.
Considering how much the 49ers traded away to acquire Lance, you’d think the team would be all-in on making him the starter for the 2023 season.
However, Kyle Shanahan’s latest comments about the quarterback room have San Francisco fans speculating about a possible trade involving Trey Lance.
According to Josina Anderson, the 49ers’ head coach did claim he’d like to have all three quarterbacks on the roster.
However, when asked about whether or not any of the quarterbacks are deemed “untouchable,” Shanahan made it clear that each player could be had via trade.
Kyle Shanahan on attractiveness of his QB stable for teams looking to deal:
“I hope all 3 of these guys are with us & I don’t want to lose any, but we’ll listen to anything…”
On if he’s told John Lynch any of their QBs are untouchable: “No, I don’t say anyone is hands-off.”

At this point in the offseason, most NFL teams are going to be non-commital most questions. Leaving the door open like that prevents other organizations from knowing exactly what each other is doing.
Regardless, 49ers fans seemed convinced Kyle Shanahan’s comments send a message that the team might just be seeking to trade Lance.

It feels to me like they are dipping a toe in the water. If anyone is willing to give them a 1st or tbh even a 2nd for him, yeah probably. But they probably aren't going much lower than that. Are they? Geez, maybe …

It’s still early in the offseason and the NFL Draft is still roughly a month away. Perhaps the 49ers make a move and trade away their young quarterback.
Considering what they dealt to acquire him though, it would be a wild move to see them trade him away.
