Most people would kill for the chance to stay in a room located at the top of the clubhouse at Augusta National Golf Club. However, if you’re 6’8″—as is the case with South African amateur Christo Lamprecht—you might end up facing a few issues.

The Masters is absolutely overflowing with traditions and history that make it one of the most iconic events golf has to offer. It’s an honor to simply earn the right to compete on the hallowed grounds of Augusta National, but if you’re one of the amateurs who’s able to secure an invite, you get access to what is arguably the perk of a lifetime.

The centerpiece of The Masters is the white clubhouse that sits at the end of Magnolia Lane. That three-story building is topped by the Crow’s Nest, which is the name given to the 1,200-square-foot room that’s traditionally been used to house amateur players during the tournament.

Last year, Christo Lamprecht (who currently occupies the top spot in the World Amateur Golf Ranking) punched his ticket to The Masters by winning The Amateur Championship at Hillside Golf Club, making him one of the five men with that designation who earned the right to take part in The Tradition Unlike Any Other in 2024.

Lamprecht literally stands out from the rest of the pack thanks to his 6’8″ frame, and he quickly learned the Crow’s Nest wasn’t really designed with someone his height in mind when he ducked through the doorway leading to the 15 stairs you need to climb to enter a guest room with a shower and bed that definitely leave a bit to be desired if you’re someone his size.

With that said, as someone who has a couple of inches on Lamprecht, I guarantee this is far from the first time he’s had to adjust to some slightly lackluster travel accommodations, and he seemed to be much more concerned with the history of a room that’s previously hosted notable names including Jack Nicklaus, Phil Mickelson, and Tiger Woods.
