Aaron Rodgers Defends Former Rival Russell Wilson For Surprising Reason

Despite their many battles as the quarterbacks of the Green Bay Packers and Seattle Seahawks, respectively, New York Jets signal-caller Aaron Rodgers has taken the side of Broncos QB Russell Wilson, and perhaps for a surprising reason.

Back in December, despite his relatively solid performance as the team’s starting quarterback, the Denver Broncos benched Wilson. Not only that, but they chose to do so while the team was in the midst of a wild card chase.

Speaking on The Pat McAfee Show — sometime after suggesting Jimmy Kimmel is an associate of Jeffrey Epstein and that the NFL is hinting at its rigged ways through the colors of its Super Bowl logos — the 40-year-old shared his thoughts on the situation in Denver involving his fellow future Hall of Famer.

“I think Russell Wilson has handled what happened in Denver pretty well and I applaud him for speaking on it. That’s a pretty scandalous situation and he was definitely playing better than he did last year,” Rodgers explained.

“Russ and I have had some battles over the years. There was a great rivalry, and we couldn’t seem to beat them in Seattle. They couldn’t beat us in Green Bay,” Rodgers said “I think we have more of a common enemy based on some comments that have been said about a dear friend of mine, and then seeing this come out.”

Rodgers is referring to current head coach Sean Payton, who made disparaging comments about current New York Jets offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett, who was the coach of the Broncos last season.

With Wilson’s time seemingly being up in Denver, it’ll be interesting to see where the Super Bowl winner will end up next, because while he’s still a competent QB, he’s also far from the player he was when he won a Super Bowl.
