Here’s a new twist in the oddly timed in-season NFL-sanctioned workout for exiled quarterback Colin Kaepernick scheduled for this coming Saturday.

NFL insider Adam Schefter appeared on WEEI radio on Thursday and says based on what he’s heard, he’s skeptical the Kaepernick workout will even happen.

On Wednesday, Schefter said on ESPN, “I think Roger Goodell, there’s a part of him, the Commissioner, that feels bad about the way that this has unfolded. And I think that he believes that he must do his part to try to get a workout for Colin Kaepernick, to try to get interviews with Colin Kaepernick, to try to do his part to get Colin Kaepernick in front of teams.”

Dan Patrick, according to Pro Football Talk, backed up Schefter’s assertations regarding Goodell’s motivation for giving the noe 32-year-old Kaepernick what is essentially his own “Pro Day.”

Mike Florio speculated “that the league’s lawyers fear a second lawsuit from Kaepernick, which would argue that the teams individually and collectively (with or without proof of actual collusion) have frozen him out in retaliation for his grievance that was settled for payment reportedly in the range of $1 million to $10 million.”

Kaepernick said following the announcement of the NFL-arranged workout that he had only learned about it on the day the NFL made it public news.

Also, following the announcement, Kaepernick’s representatives asked for the NFL for a list of who was going to attend the workout on Saturday in Atlanta, and the league reportedly agreed.

Now, there appears to be some sort of pissing match happening as the NFL repoertedly has since backed out of that agreement.

Several NFL teams have reportedly shown Kaepernick the courtesy of letting them know whether or not they will be represented at the workout, but Schefter now says he will believe the workout will happen when he sees it.

“If that workout even happens,” Schefter said when the subject was brought up on Thursday on WEEI’s The Greg Hill Show. “I’m skeptical, I’ll say that, I’m skeptical. We’ll see.”

When asked if anything had changed to make him skeptical, Schefter replied, “Nothing. I’ve been skeptical all along.”

The full interview with Schefter can be heard around the 41:53 mark below.
