Texas baseball player Adrian Rodriguez irritated viewers of the College World Series for his tiresome antics in the batter’s box. It led to harsh criticism from fans who’ve grown annoyed with the slugger.
Despite the blowback, Rodriguez revealed his true character after seeing the Longhorns‘ season come to an end. He took time to interact with supporters that travelled to Omaha following a tough loss.
In doing so, he shifted the narrative from negative to positive.
Texas baseball antics have annoyed fans.
The Longhorns were one of eight teams to make the College World Series field after a spotless run through the first two rounds of the postseason. Texas swept through the Austin regional before beating Oregon in back-to-back games in the supers.
Exposure to different fanbases increases in Omaha. All eyes are on those last eight squads as they battle for a national championship.
New viewers were introduced to the Longhorns. Many didn’t like what they saw.
I don’t care about bat flips or home run celebrations.
But whatever this shit is when taking a ball, is lame as hell.

Adrian Rodriguez, in particular, was the target of criticism. His antics in the batter’s box peeved fans.
He was seen shaking his head at opposing teams after taking pitches at the plate. Many view it as arrogance. It sparked a major social media reaction in the Longhorns’ College World Series opener.
This is something that Rodriguez has done throughout the season. It’s just the way he stays dialed in at the dish. Most outside of Austin were unaware. They voiced their disgust online.
The behavior continued into a Game 3 rematch with Georgia on Tuesday. In fact, he ticked things up a notch.
Rodriguez got up 3-0 in the count during an at-bat in the fourth inning. On the next delivery, he kicked his leg out over home plate in attempts to distract the pitcher. He’d strike out two pitches later.

Again, a reaction was seen on social media. Most celebrated the fact that he went down looking. He looked silly.
Despite the negative perception, he was able to flip the script after the game. He gained the respect of rivals with kindness.
Adrian Rodriguez signed autographs after the game.
Texas was eliminated from the College World Series after a 2-0 loss to Georgia. Rodriguez was 1-4 with a K.
He had an opportunity to do some damage with two runners on in the eighth inning but grounded out softly to first base to end the frame. All in all, it was a frustrating night for the Longhorns at the plate.
Rodriguez put the frustrations aside to interact with young fans after the fact. It was likely a highlight of their trip.
He could’ve easily packed it in after a bad night and gotten on the bus. He chose not to ignore his supporters.
While Rodriguez struggled in his final game, he was one of the biggest stars on the field this week. The infielder went 2-3 in his first outing vs. Georgia before batting for the cycle in Game 2 against Alabama.
Rodriguez hit .667 at the College World Series with a homer and seven RBIs. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough to keep his team afloat. While the outcome wasn’t what was hoped for, his character was on full display during his final moments in Omaha.
