Sportswriter/author Alan Shipnuck’s 2022 book PHIL: The Rip-Roaring (and Unauthorized!) Biography of Golf’s Most Colorful Superstar marked a pivotal moment in Phil Mickelson‘s public persona.

Statements about the PGA Tour and Saudi Arabia made by Phil Mickelson to Shipnuck prior to the book’s release had a direct impact on Callaway, Workday, KPMG, and Amstel Light terminating partnerships with Phil Mickelson prior to the launch of the LIV Golf Tour.

Earlier today, Alan Shipnuck teased a large leak of Phil Mickelson’s gambling ‘receipts’ on the way. Shipnuck got an advanced look at a forthcoming book from Billy Walters, a legendary sports gambler. Alan says he signed an NDA and can’t share specifics, but he tweeted:

“I have read Billy Walters’s autobiography GAMBLER. Can’t say anything specific (yet!) since I had to sign an NDA but he’s quite a character and it’s a wild read. Walters devotes 2 chapters to his ex-friend Mickelson. He has all the receipts on Phil’s sports betting and HOLY S—!”

The first comment was someone joking about ‘leaks’ and getting this info to us asap…

Someone else replied to Shipnuck saying “Tbh so what if bets are significant. Its his money and he can do whatever he wants with it. I don’t see him hard up for cash. Its not like he was traveling the world spending it on hookers and mistresses. That would be worth a read.” Alan said he was able to finish reading the book in a day.

Billy Walters’s book, Gambler: Secrets From A Life At Risk, is being published by Simon and Schuster with a release date of August 22, 2023.

The book can be pre-ordered on through the Simon and Schuster website as well as on Amazon (BroBible may earn a small commission through Amazon).
