No one has benefitted more from Florida State’s offensive incompetence this season than punter Alex Mastromanno. The senior has been called time and again in the young 2024 campaign as the Seminoles struggle to move the chains.
Through two games, he’s racked up eight punts totaling 399 yards. His most recent outing versus Boston College received national recognition!
FSU scored only 13 points against the Eagles, failing to move the ball on the ground or through the air. QB DJ Uiagalelei completed just 50% of his passes while Florida State running backs combined for 26 yards on eight carries.
The result was a heavy reliance on the punt team, which effectively flipped the field on six different occasions. Those kicks proved effective both on and off the field!
Alex Mastromanno signed with the Seminoles in 2019. Since, he’s appeared in 49 contests.
He entered this year ranked fourth in program history in punts and third in yardage. On Saturday, he got one step closer to becoming a record holder.
Mastromanno’s six punts travelled a combined 313 yards -including a long of 65! That yardage moved him into second all-time with 8,953 total punt yards.
Rohn Stark is the current program leader, booting 244 punts for 10,418 yards between 1978-1981. Mastromanno’s just under 1,500 yards away from surpassing that mark, which seems attainable given Florida State’s offensive outputs to this point.
Alex Mastromanno was recently named Punter of the Week.
Mastromanno is a former Australian rules footballer who’s successfully made the transition to the American style. One of many Aussie punters in college football, he has an absolute boot.

That leg has been on full display over the last few seasons in Tallahassee.
We mentioned the experience, with nearly 50 games under his belt. We noted the production evidenced by his spot in the record books. He’s been doing this consistently for a long time!
Last year was maybe his best as he was named a Ray Guy award finalist while earning Second-Team All-America honors.
He’s already adding to those accolades this season!

Alex Mastrmanno was named Punter of the Week on Wednesday following that six-punt performance. He has his offense to thank!
The special teamer certainly isn’t rooting for DJ Uiagalelei and Co. to fail, but the three-and-outs aren’t hurting in his chase for history. We’ll see how much closer he can get to that No. 1 spot in Game 3 vs. Memphis.
