New England Revolution defender Andrew Farrell has a history of scoring own goals and did it again on Saturday. It came in the 69th minute no less!

Columbus midfielder Liam Fraser booted a long ball just short of the box, as Ferrell was trying to hustle back and mark a man. The ball nicked off of his shoulder, heading right past goalkeeper Matt Turner, who had come out to play the ball.

Farrell, Turner and Crew forward Gyasi Zardes converged on the ball as it went right toward the net. Hilarity ensued and it was officially ruled an own goal.

The unconventional goal brought the game to a draw that would hold through the final whistle. Tough break.

Columbus’ social team tweeted “just how we drew it up.”

Prior to the video tweet, Davis Remy replied to the score graphic tweet with the same caption. Tough break.

Farrell, who caused the own goal, has been with New England since 2013. He played two years in the USL and has been with the Revolution ever since.

I couldn’t find his career “own goals allowed” total, but he has two in the last 365 days.

Farrell was responsible for the first on October 19, 2020.

Tough break.
