Andy Reid was just 13 years old when he participated in the Punt, Pass and Kick competition. He is 65 years old today.

Although his performance (really just his towering presence) at the event was legendary, the 11th-year head coach of the Kansas City Chiefs never would have expected it to stay with him throughout his entire life. And yet, here we are talking about it 52 years later. The video is incredible.

Punt, Pass and Kick, for those who don’t know, was an NFL-sanctioned skills competition for children aged 6 to 15. Each kid was scored by distance and accuracy in each of those three categories: punting, passing and kicking. A regional competition used to determine who would advance to a district championship.

Reid reached the Los Angeles district championship in 1971, which was held at halftime of the Rams’ Monday Night Football game on December 13. Participants were dressed in uniforms that were provided by the team but there was a major issue upon Reid’s arrival.

None of the youth sizes fit. He dwarfed his competitors in both height and weight.

As a result, the team was forced to grab a jersey and shoulder pads out of Les Josephson’s locker. The Rams’ starting running back was listed at 6-foot-1, 207 pounds.

His professional equipment fit a 13-year-old Andy Reid nicely!

Reid looked like a full grown man amongst boys once the competition got underway, even though he was well within the age parameters. Chiefs rookie wide receiver Rashee Rice legitimately could not believe his eyes upon seeing the clip for the first time.

Reid is set to coach in his sixth Super Bowl next weekend. Should things go horribly wrong, he is ready to tag in at quarterback, punter or placekicker. He has the experience and he is basically the same size as he was at 13!
