GIO URSHELA, A MOST HAPPY FELLA!

On the final day of the 2021 MLB season, the Yankees’ third baseman risked life and limb to make the catch of the year. Similar to the famous ‘Jeter Catch,’ Urshela got on his horse and went flying out of the field of play.

In Jeter’s case, he went diving into the stands.

In Urshela’s case, he could not stop his momentum as he reeeeached out as far as he could to make the third out. He ran 126 feet at a speed of 27.3 feet per second, made the grab and went head-first into the Tampa Bay dugout.

Somehow, he still managed to hold on. It was a valiant effort.

Take another look at just how insane it was:

Everything about Urshela’s grab was incredible. From turning on the jets, to extending his arm, to keeping his eye on the ball as it landed in his glove, to sacrificing his body.

However, it also provided one of the funniest moments of the year. Umpire Angel Hernandez, who is notoriously awful, came over to verify the catch.

In doing so, he leaned over the dugout, lost his balance and awkwardly flipped over the fence. New York catcher Gary Sanchez tried to hold him up, but Hernandez took a tumble. It was pretty embarrassing.

Tough scene for Hernandez, incredible scene for Urshela.
