Antonio Brown showed up in court in Miami, Florida, Wednesday morning to accept a plea deal, wearing a ski mask. Instead, the judge put his plea deal on hold.
Brown was supposed to accept a plea deal that would keep him out of prison despite being charged with second-degree attempted murder for an incident that occurred in May 2025.
Last Wednesday, Miami-Dade County prosecutors made Antonio Brown “an offer he couldn’t refuse.” The plea deal offered by prosecutors, according to Antonio Brown’s attorney, Mark Eiglarsh, will “dramatically reduce the criminal charge against him and result in probation rather than a prison sentence.”
Bizarrely, Antonio Brown not only wore a mask covering his entire head to the courthouse but also inside the building, according to photos Eiglarsh shared on Instagram. This isn’t the first time, however, that Brown has gone out in public wearing such a mask. In 2022, he wore a similar mask (pictured above) during the game at Super Bowl LVI.
Why was Antonio Brown’s plea deal postponed by the judge?
Once today’s hearing began, Judge Marisa Tinkler announced she had not had enough time to review the terms of the proposed deal to proceed with Antonio Brown’s change-of-plea hearing.
“The only litigation I’ve had on this case to date has been request to travel, as well as regular status (hearings),” she said, according to Local 10 News. “But I am just not up to speed enough to move forward with a change of plea.”
“It’s a setback because it’s another moment my client has an ankle monitor on and doesn’t have closure,” Eiglarsh said after the judge postponed the deal. “The decision to accept the plea is thoroughly in the hands of the judge and I presume she will accept it. That said, this was carefully negotiated with the state.”
Tinkler Mendez rescheduled the hearing for October 28, stating she had not had enough time to review the agreement because she was in the midst of a capital sentencing case and she had only just received the deal.
“While Antonio and I are disappointed that the change of plea did not take place this morning, we remain optimistic that, once the Court has the opportunity to fully consider all of the facts and circumstances surrounding this case, the judge will accept the carefully negotiated resolution,” Eiglarsh told Los Angeles.
