Miami Heat star Tyler Herro finds himself in an offseason of uncertainty as he’s been mentioned as a potential trade candidate, but his younger brother Austin has apparently solidified his future.

The class of 2023 combo guard made a college commitment on Sunday, following in his sibling’s footsteps by picking a program from the SEC.

Austin Herro committed to the South Carolina Gamecocks over the weekend, becoming the eighth new addition for second-year head coach Lamont Paris. While he’s unranked as a prospect, he’ll certainly have a chance to crack the Gamecocks’ rotation as the team went 11-21 last year and lost its best player in second-round NBA pick GG Jackson.

Herro made the announcement via a post on his Instagram page.

“Write your own story,” the post read.

As a senior at Whitnall High School in Milwaukee, Herro averaged 14.8 points, 6.4 boards, and 4.6 assists a night. He did hold an offer from Cal Poly but opted to suit up for South Carolina instead.

Austin’s brother, Tyler Herro, played his college ball at Kentucky. He earned SEC All-Freshman honors in his lone season before going on to become a first-round draft pick.

Tyler has been the topic of trade talks this offseason, most recently being linked to a potential deal with the Portland Trailblazers for Damian Lillard. As a result, he removed the Miami Heat from his social media bios, sparking a reaction online.

Should Austin Herro have anywhere near the impact of his brother at the college level, the Gamecocks will have gotten a steal.
