A Mic’d Up Baker Mayfield Threw Some Shade At Lamar Jackson’s Passing Skills To Browns Teammates In Huddle

Baker Mayfield shades Lamar Jackson's passing skills during huddle in last weeks' contest

Baker Mayfield and Lamar Jackson sort of have this budding rivalry going on; which makes plenty of sense. Not only did each win a Heisman Trophy during their college days at Oklahoma and Louisville, respectively, but they were both drafted in the first-round in the 2018 NFL Draft — with Mayfield going to the Cleveland Browns No. 1 overall, and Jackson going No. 32 to the Baltimore Ravens — meaning they face one another at least twice a year in divisional matchups. It’s one of those head-to-head rivalries we could see fo the next decade or so, and it’s pretty saucy already.

With each currently 1-1 against one another as starting quarterbacks, it’ll be fun to watch how both Baker Mayfield and Lamar Jackson develop over the next few seasons, with Jackson being the more dynamic player, and Mayfield being the purer passer. And it was those passing skills that Mayfield brought up during a huddle with his Browns teammates during last week’s Browns-Ravens game, with the former No. 1 overall pick throwing some simple shade at Jackson’s, perceived, inability of throwing the ball if his team trailed.

Mic’d up for the contest, here’s what Mayfield said to his teammates to inspire them to score one more time, which, in his mind, would all but lead to a victory because Jackson would have to throw, not run, to make big plays.

Quick and to the point, for sure, but that’s the way Baker Mayfield often does things, right? We all know how much he loves talking shit, and this is just one of the more recent examples of that. And, while he and Lamar Jackson clearly have a mutual respect for one another, the fiery Baker knows that his counterpart isn’t quite up to snuff when it comes to throwing the pigskin all around the field.

Once people on Twitter saw the video, they seemed to agree with Mayfield’s assessment of Jackson’s throwing ability, believing that, if you can make the Ravens throw, they’re at a big disadvantage.

As a Browns fan, I can’t wait to see how the Baker Mayfield-Lamar Jackson rivalry only adds more fuel to the Browns-Ravens fire. The two teams should hate one another, so let’s keep this good ol’ fashioned shit-talking going on for the next 10-plus years every single time they take the field against one another.
