After being a member of the Los Angeles Rams for just 48 hours, former #1 overall pick Baker Mayfield suited up for the team last Thursday and was able to lead the defending Super Bowl champions to a last-second win over the Las Vegas Raiders.

As a result of his heroics, the 27-year-old has been named the NFC Offensive Player of the Week, which marks a remarkable turnaround for the former Heisman Trophy winner, who looked as though he was on the verge of a future as a permanent backup quarterback.

In the game against the Raiders, Mayfield completed 22/35 passes for 230 yards and a game-winning touchdown — which capped an eight-play, 98-yard drive — to Van Jefferson in the closing seconds.

Earlier this week, Rams head coach Sean McVay confirmed that Mayfield will be the team’s starting quarterback for the final four games of the 2022 season. Mayfield has played in eight total games with the Carolina Panthers and Rams this season and has completed 58% of his passes for 1,543 yards, seven touchdowns, and six interceptions.

To close out their disappointing 2022 season, which will see the defending Super Bowl champs lose the division and miss out on the NFC playoffs entirely, Mayfield and the Los Angeles Rams will face off against the equally disappointing Green Bay Packers, the abysmal Denver Broncos, the Los Angeles Chargers, and the Seattle Seahawks.

Prior to joining the Los Angeles Rams — who lost starting quarterback Matthew Stafford to an injury earlier this year — Mayfield was drafted by the Cleveland Browns as the #1 overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. Despite the fact that he led the Browns to their first playoff victory in decades, the Browns shipped him out of town in favor of Deshaun Watson, who was facing 26 civil lawsuits for alleged sexual misconduct and/or assault when they acquired him.
