Justin Fields and the Bears were hit with a blowout loss to the Chiefs on Sunday. Chicago never stood a chance, falling behind 34 points before the halftime break before losing 41-10.

One play from that loss is now raising questions amongst NFL fans.

While trailing 41-3 in the fourth quarter of action, Fields took a vicious hit from a Chiefs defender. Leaving his feet in hopes of gaining extra yardage, the quarterback dove forward before being met by linebacker Willie Gay.

Gay’s forearm struck Fields across the facemask, and the passer was slow to get to his feet after the fact. He even looked a bit wobbly following the head shot, leading teammate DJ Moore to call the training staff over.

Fields was removed from the game after the concerning reaction, undergoing a concussion check, but he was later put back in the lineup with the Bears down by five touchdowns.

Many online have been critical of that decision.

Paul Pabst of the Dan Patrick Show said, “Fields took a head shot and then Moore signaled to the sidelines to get him out of the game. The coaching staff decided to put Fields back in the game…. down 38 points.”

“Pointless to send him back out there,” another follower wrote.

After the game, head coach Matt Eberflus was asked about that decision. He responded, “He was cleared, right? He came out. We were going for it on fourth down there, but he came out, so I decided to kick the field goal, right? And then he was cleared, and he was ready to go.”

While he was cleared, Chicago had no chance of winning the game. Why take the risk?

After re-entering the matchup, Fields would lead the Bears to one more score.
