Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields finds himself in uncertain territory regarding his long-term future with the team.

A recent report highlights internal debates within the organization, and has cast doubt on Fields’ potential to become the team’s franchise quarterback long-term.

NFL Insider Jay Glazer reported on this during an appurtenance on FOX, stating, “The big thing here is Justin Fields. Right now, the jury is still out whether he’s their quarterback of the future.”

Justin Fields still has a ways to go to convince the Chicago Bears that he is their quarterback of the future, and that’s the reason they went out and got another (first round) pick for this year’s draft.”

While it’s not entirely surprising given Fields’ recent performance, the timing of this report, just entering Week 3 of the season, has raised eyebrows.

Fields has struggled in the early stages of the season, completing only 60.6 percent of his passes for 427 yards, two touchdowns, and three interceptions. Additionally, he threw a pick-6 and his rushing gains have been limited.

It’s evident that Fields thrives when allowed to use his mobility, but the Bears have yet to fully capitalize on this aspect of his game in the first two games of the season.

The uncertain future of Fields as the Bears’ long-term quarterback remains a prominent storyline to watch as the season progresses.
